International shipping plays a central role in global trade, carrying 70% of that trade by value and more than 80% by volume. However, it is also a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for around 2.89% of global emissions according to the IMO Fourth GHG Study.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is the United Nations specialized agency developing global regulations for shipping in areas such as safety, security, and prevention of pollution, including air pollution, from ships.

Ten armed men have reportedly carried out a heist in the Gulf of Mexico, stealing equipment, tools, materials and other items from a Campeche Bay oil platform, that is owned by Pemex.

According to information, the armed group arrived in three vessels, forcing the hostages, including employees of Pemex and its contractor Evya, to load them with various goods they stole from the site.

The navy’s maritime traffic control centre was notified of the crime about 20 minutes after the heist had ended, and luckily there were no reports of injuries.

Pemex has not yet reacted to reports of an assault, but local media inform that Pemex sources confirmed the incident.

Every once in a while, we’ll come across a collision video that poses the question of who’s at fault. This isn’t one of those videos.

The incident took place June 10th in Tarragona, Spain when the emergency rescue tug Punta Mayor apparently suffered a mechanical problem and backed into a 49.5-meter schooner moored at the marina, causing it to sink.

Sailing enthusiasts have identified the schooner as the Eleonora E, which was built in 2000 by Dutch yacht designer Van Der Graaf as an exact replica of the schooner Westward, designed in 1910 by renowned America’s Cup winning naval architect Nathanael Greene Herreshoff. The schooner had just undergone a refit in 2021 and is listed for sale at 6.9 million euros.
