The 2,038 TEU Wan Hai 288 and the 920 TEU Resurgence collided on the Long Tau River in southern Vietnam on 11 February. The two ships were severely damaged and several containers from the first ship were destroyed as the port bow of the vessel was hit by Resurgence, whose bow was crunched in the incident.
A fire onboard ferry Stena Europe broke out in the engine room during weekend while she was approaching Fishguard port, UK, on arrival from Rosslare Ireland. Passengers were safely disembarked and no injuries reported.
According to news media, the ferry sparked a massive emergency services response to the Fishguard port. Stena Europe was assisted by two tugs while the fire was successfully extinguished, after midnight on February 12, making the ferry inoperable.
In an update on the impact of last week’s earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria, stated that ports and shipping in the region were still impacted.
Specifically, according to updates, the BP Azerbaijan had suspended the loading of Azerbaijan petroleum product through the BTC line (Baku – Tiflis – Ceyhan line) at Botas Terminal – however, the loading operation of vessels through BTC line at Botas Terminal is now in progress and the first tanker vessel berthed on 12 February 2023.
Bunkering has been suspended in Gibraltar Strait ports, and suppliers in Malta are not taking on any new offers because of a damaged jetty, Engine informs
The jetty in Valletta has been damaged by rough weather and is expected to limit bunkering in Valletta and in bunker locations off Malta for a week.
