Two cargo ships collided earlier this morning approximately 4 miles off the coast of Kefalonia, Greece, causing a fire onboard one of the vessels.
According to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, swift action was taken by the crew to promptly address and extinguish the fire. In a stroke of good fortune, reports have confirmed that all crew members were unharmed.
The one vessel is registered under the Maltese flag and the other under the Portuguese flag. The vessel under the Maltese flag had a total of 12 crew members on board, while the Portuguese-flagged vessel had 11 crew members.
A fleet of ten tugboats swiftly converged upon the scene of a collision to initiate the process of towing two cargo ships. In the port of Argostoli, the necessary checks are expected to be carried out on the two ships and the captains are expected to testify on the incident.
