On 1 January 2023, new regulations relating to air pollution from vessels came into effect.
Marine Order 97 (MO97) deals with the prevention of air pollution from vessels and gives effect to the MARPOL Regulations for the Prevention of Air Pollution from ships (Annex VI). MO97 applies to regulated Australian vessels, domestic commercial vessels, recreational vessels and foreign vessels.
The IMO Sub- Committee on Ship Systems and Equipment, 9th Session (SSE 9), is taking place this week with a view to focus on measures to prevent fires on RoRo ships and the reviewal of SOLAS chapter II-2, among others.
In general, the SSE deals with a wide range of technical and operational matters related to systems and equipment on all types of ships, vessels, craft and mobile units covered by IMO instruments. This includes life-saving equipment, appliances and arrangements; and fire detection and fire extinguishing systems.
On 24th of February, approximately 10-12 small boats with up to 6 persons on each in the vicinity of IRTC Point B.
Two crew members of bulk carrier CARAVOS HARMONY were found dead in their cabins, reportedly in their shower rooms, on Feb 21.
