Vietnamese authorities report two missing crew members from a cargo ship that sank in the South China Sea off Vietnam’s south-eastern coast on March 11th.
As local authorities report that the locally registered general cargo vessel, was sailing between Vung Tau and Phu Quy Island in Binh Thuan province when it encountered monsoon rains and wave heights of two to four metres. The ship, transporting approximately 800 tonnes of construction materials, went down about 28 nautical miles off the coast of Binh Thuan,

Two incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia (one CAT 3 incident and one CAT 4 incident) were reported, between 28 February – 6 March 2023.
Two incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia (one CAT 3 incident and one CAT 4 incident) were reported. The CAT 4 incident occurred on board a petroleum/chemical tanker at anchor at Panjang Anchorage, Indonesia. Engine spares were missing. The CAT 3 incident occurred on board a bulk carrier while underway in the eastbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme in the Singapore Strait (SS). Nothing was reported stolen. The crew members were safe in both incidents.

US imposes further sanctions against Russia
On February 24, 2023, the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the US Department of State and the US Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) imposed sanctions on numerous additional individuals, entities and vessels that the US has determined are engaged in sanctions evasion.
