Assureds who have vessels carrying dangerous goods to and/or from Chinese ports should note that the Ministry of Transport in China (‘MOT’) has released amended “Regulations on the Safety Supervision and Management of Ships Carrying Dangerous Goods”. These amended Regulations will come into effect on 1st March 2025 and replace the existing 2018 Regulations. A fire broke out on 30 January at a shipyard south of the Suez Canal in Egypt, destroying multiple fishing boats and other vessels.
The fire that broke out in the shipyard on 30 January in the Adabiya area, south of the Suez Canal, burned for about six hours before emergency teams managed to successfully contain it. Local reports state that the director of Civil Defence Forces dispatched 12 fire trucks to the site to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby fishing boats and other vessels.
