Area of concern
The continue exercise enhanced vigilance when transiting areas of concern, including the Singapore Strait and the Sulu-Celebes Seas; and littoral States to increase patrols and enforcement in these areas.
The ICC International Maritime Bureau (IMB) has raised concern on the resurgence of reported incidents in the Gulf of Guinea waters and the increase in incidents in the Singapore Straits in its mid-year report for 2023.
As explained, the vessel was seized while docked in the port of Civitavecchia, on the coast of the Western Mediterranean a short way northwest of Rome.

Of these, one was a CAT 3 incident and five were CAT 4 incidents. Of the six incidents, five incidents occurred on board ships while they were underway in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS), and one incident occurred at Tanjung Priok Anchorage, Indonesia.
