In the aftermath of Storm Pia, Danish beaches are currently undergoing a comprehensive cleanup operation following the loss of numerous containers ship at sea, before Christmas.
A crewmember of a RoRo vessel was hit by vehicle while unloading, in order to draw lessons learned.
The incident
The incident involved a distressing personal near-miss incident on a RoRo cargo ferry.
The crewmembers responsible for the daily task of overseeing freight movements were experienced and qualified individuals. During the incident, the reporting crewmember positioned himself in a blind spot in front of a freight vehicle. Unfortunately, he was knocked over when the freight driver misinterpreted a “thumbs-up” signal from the linkspan operator.
On December 26 a Singapore-flagged tanker, PEARL KENZO, collided with a Chinese-flagged fishing vessel, SUIYUPU 0183, near Chengshan Jiao, China.
According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the tanker was on its way from Penglai, China, to Zhoushan when the event occurred. The China Maritime Safety Administration notified MPA that the fishing vessel had sunk and that eight of the crew members were missing.
In Turkish waters, environmental protection is developing, and significant fines are applicable to vessels that violate Turkish anti-pollution regulations. As per the latest amendments brought into effect on 01st January 2024, there is an increase (58.46 %) in the amount of the fines that are being applied by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) against the offending vessels compared to the previous year.
