On 10th June a fire erupted on a Turkish-owned cargo ship, Yaf Horizon, while it was docked at the port of Haifa, leading to a significant emergency response.
As explained, the Yaf Horizon had arrived from Russia on June 9, carrying iron or steel, and was moored at Israel Shipyards in Haifa’s Kishon district.
A recent piracy attack on the German-managed general cargo vessel Basilisk was successfully thwarted.
All 17 crew members are reported to be safe and accounted for. One crew member was injured during the attack but is in stable condition and has received full medical attention.
French port workers have intensified their industrial action in protest at proposed pension reforms and working conditions.
Correspondents have reported that following unsuccessful negotiations, the national port and dockers workers’ union CGT, called for a return to dead port days across all French ports, starting June 7th, 2024.
