Two separate maritime security incidents on August 5 involving tankers operating off Yemen and in the Strait of Hormuz.
A tanker operating approximately 95 nautical miles southeast of Aden, Yemen, reported hearing a loud explosion in close proximity to the vessel, according to the ship’s master. All crew were accounted for and safe, and no environmental impact was reported.
The authorities are investigating the incident and advised vessels to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity.
To remind, on 5 August, Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement claimed it had carried out a ballistic missile attack on the Saudi oil tanker Wafa in the northern Red Sea off the coast of Yanbu
In a separate time-late report, the master of a tanker transiting approximately 9 nautical miles southeast of Kumzar, Oman, in the Strait of Hormuz, reported hearing two explosions. The crew and vessel were confirmed safe, with no environmental damage reported.
The incident from an attack warning to an advisory after determining that the intended target could not be conclusively identified.
