On 23 May 2026, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) received multiple reports of suspicious activity in the Gulf of Aden.

On 26 May, several vessels operating in the area reported being approached by skiffs under suspicious circumstances. One report described a large skiff fitted with two outboard engines and carrying both ladders and weapons.

Vessels transiting the Gulf of Aden are advised to proceed with caution, maintain heightened vigilance, and follow the guidance outlined in BMP MS (Best Management Practices for Maritime Security).

Authorities said investigations into the reported activity remain ongoing. Shipping operators were also urged to report any suspicious activity.

To remind, since late April, a renewed piracy threat near Somalia has sparked concerns. Authorities raised the threat level off Somalia’s coast following a surge in piracy incidents between 21 and 26 April 2026.
