The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has published its Monthly Piracy Report for the month of July 2025.

Twelve acts of piracy and armed robbery were attempted against ships during the month of July 2025 and reported by Member States or international organizations in consultative status. Some of the incidents include:

  • Stellata (Product tanker, Malta)

The incident: The duty crew on routine rounds, onboard a tanker underway, spotted six unauthorised persons near the stern. Alarm raised, resulting in the Ship’s General alarm sounded. Upon hearing the alarm, the persons escaped without stealing anything. All crew are reported safe.

Response: the incident was reported to the Singaporean Authorities. Singapore PRC relayed the message to Singapore Police Coast Guard & Indonesian Marine Police HQ. (IMBKL)

Location: Singapore, Straits, Singapore 01° 06.55′ N 103° 44.56′ E 

  • Medi Palmarola (Bulk carrier, Liberia)

The incident: Duty crew onboard the ship underway observed four individuals disembarking from the stern. The alarm was immediately raised, and all crew members mustered and accounted for. Inspections revealed that spare parts for the generator had been stolen. Upon reaching Singapore, the police coast guard boarded the ship for an investigation and confirmed the theft of spare parts.

Location: Singapore Straits, Liberia, 01° 05.84′ N, 103° 44.09′ E 

  • AL Lulu (Bulk carrier, Marshall Islands)

The incident: Five robbers armed with a pistol boarded a ship underway and entered the engine room. Duty engineer noticed the robbers at the workshop and raised the alarm. Master made a PA announcement and crew mustered. Hearing the alarm, the robbers escaped with stolen ship’s engine spares. The coast guard boarded the ship at the anchorage for inspection.

Location: Singapore Straits, Singapore 01° 02.79′ N 103° 39.52′ E 

  • Kota Nabil (Container ship, Singapore)

The incident: Duty crew on rounds onboard a ship underway noticed four robbers on deck with a long knife and immediately notified the OOW. Alarm raised and crew mustered. Hearing the alarm, the robbers escaped. A search was made and found the steering gear room padlock was broken into. Nothing reported stolen.

Location: Singapore Straits, Singapore 01° 02.70′ N 103° 39.29′ E 

  • CMA CGM Fort James (Container ship, France)

The incident: While underway, the A/B was doing his security patrol when he noticed the padlock on the aft station starboard side was damaged. A search was conducted, with no perpetrators found onboard. Subsequent review of CCTV footage revealed that six perpetrators had boarded the ship from the starboard aft station. They escaped from the ship about 10 minutes later

Response: The incident was reported to Singapore POCC. 

Location: Indonesia 01° 03.79′ N 103° 40.97′ E

  • Tasco Sakorn (Tanker, Singapore)

The incident: While underway, the 2nd Engineer discovered the aft door behind the galley was ajar. Upon entering the engine room, he found that engine stores and spare parts were missing. The crew conducted a thorough security search but found no perpetrators onboard and no suspicious crafts sighted nearby. All crew members were accounted for with no injuries reported. An internal investigation suggests the perpetrators may have boarded the ship via the skylight hatch at the poop deck portside provision hatch and escaped through the aft door.

Location: Indonesia 01° 10.96′ N 103° 51.24′ E

  • Name Withheld (Product tanker, Denmark)

The incident: Six unauthorised persons boarded the tanker underway and entered the engine room. Alarm raised and crew mustered. Seeing the crew’s alertness, the perpetrators escaped with stolen engine spares. All crew members reported safe.

Location: Singapore Straits, Singapore 01° 03.59′ N 103° 41.31′ E 

  • Torm Elizabeth (Tanker, Denmark)

The incident: While underway, the crew spotted a blue wooden boat alongside the port quarter of the ship. The master raised the alarm and the crew mustered. Upon hearing the alarm, six perpetrators were seen escaping into the boat. A security search was conducted, but no perpetrators were found onboard. The padlocks for the deck store, steering gear room, and engine casing were broken. A few ship store items were stolen. The crew was not injured.
