Bangladesh’s national news reported a collision between two bulk carriers at the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port.

On September 7, the bulk carrier NAVIOS CELESTIAL had its anchor drag and collided with FRIENDLY ISLANDS.

The NAVIOS CELESTIAL, registered in Panama, was carrying 44,000 tons of DAP fertilizers, while the FRIENDLY ISLANDS, flying the Liberian flag, was transporting 27,000 tons of lentils at the time of the accident.

The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) reported that the vessels only suffered minor damage with no water ingress. All crew members on both ships are safe, and there was no observed pollution. An investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the collision.

The CPA also noted that both ships have moved their anchor positions and are now securely anchored. The CPA Secretary added that local agents and the Protection & Indemnity (P&I) clubs for both vessels are already managing the compensation and legal matters related to the incident.
