An incident of an attack occurring approximately 66 nautical miles southwest of Al Hudaydah, Yemen.
The incident involved a vessel being struck on its stern by a small craft. According to reports, the small craft is described as white in color and measuring between 5 to 7 meters in length. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter.
The Liberia-flagged bulk carrier TUTOR sustained a double hit (from air and sea) to its engine room, has lost communication and is unable to maneuver. According to international news sources, the TUTOR, which belongs to Livenza Shipping Inc (Greece) and is managed/operated by Evalend Shipping Co SA (Greece), is taking on water.
In light of this incident, vessels in the vicinity are advised by UKMTO to exercise caution during transit and to promptly report any suspicious activities to UKMTO for further assistance and monitoring.
The multiple attacks have had a severe impact on global trade. According to UNCTAD, ship tonnage entering the Gulf of Eden declined by over 70 per cent between the first half of December 2023 and the first half of February 2024.
