Nigeria general strike has been suspended.
Correspondent in Nigeria reports that the decision follows the government’s pledge to double the minimum wage.
Despite the suspension of the strike, negotiations between the government and labour unions are planned to continue on a weekly basis until a final agreement is reached.

Commercial activity in all Nigeria’s ports has ground to a halt due to a general strike.
Correspondent Budd Nigeria reports that unions are demanding pay increases to compensate for inflation caused by a dramatic depreciation in the national currency (naira). Inflation is currently at about 34%.
The strike has resulted in power cuts, the closure of both businesses and public facilities such as hospitals and schools. Many flights at Abuja and Lagos airports have been cancelled.
Shipowners are advised to check the situation prior to arrival with their locally appointed agent.
