On the morning of February 6, an inland ship sank in the Blumensandhafen harbor in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg.
The 80-meter-long vessel was securely moored at the quay when, for reasons initially unclear, the accident occurred, as reported by the fire department. At the time of the incident, the ship was carrying 3500 liters of diesel and 1400 tons of potassium chloride (salt).
According to their statement, the fire department is actively securing the accident site, with ongoing preparations, including the deployment of oil barriers around the inland ship as a precautionary measure.
Fortunately, the ship’s captain emerged unharmed from the incident. Currently, the Hamburg fire department is on-site, with 40 emergency personnel managing the situation.
