According to International news, container ship CMA CGM Symi, attacked by an Iranian drone in the Indian Ocean early on 24th November. The ship suffered some damage, but the crew were all reported safe.
The official said that while in international seas, the Malta-flagged vessel was allegedly targeted by a triangle-shaped, bomb-carrying Shahed-136 drone. The US defence department source said that the drone burst, damaging the ship but without harming any of the crew.
The ship turned off its AIS immediately after leaving the Dubai harbour on November 21st, according to reports from several sources, including Voice of America and the Associated Press, as it travelled to Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
On the other hand, as of November 26th, the ship was in Cochin Anchorage, having arrived that day from Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates, which is the opposite way of Saudi Arabia. It departed Cochin on November 27 and was travelling to Port Klang, Malaysia; an estimated time of arrival was not provided.
The attack is likely to have been targeted, due to the vessel’s Israeli affiliation through Eastern Pacific Shipping.
In fact, some military forces in the area believe that shutting off an AIS signal constitutes a warning sign, and any vessel found to be missing from the AIS is assumed to be responsible.
