The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), is conducting a thorough investigation into a maritime incident that resulted in the capsizing of a Filipino Fishing Boat (FFB) DEARYN on 2nd October 2023.
In particular, the incident occurred approximately 180 nautical miles from Agno, Pangasinan, after the vessel was rammed by a foreign commercial vessel.
As informed, the Philippine fishing vessel Dearyn was located about 85 nm to the northwest of Scarborough Shoal, with six crewmembers aboard. Another eight crewmembers were out using the mother vessel’s small boats to fish nearby.
The crew of the Dearyn didn’t notice the incoming ship due to the darkness. Three of the fishing boat’s crew members, including the captain, died when the ship impacted Dearyn and
The uneven surface conditions made it impossible for the three accident survivors to rescue the corpses of the dead, according to the Philippine Coast Guard. At about 8:00 a.m., their other crew members who had been in small boats and away from the mother ship returned, and they set to work removing the three corpses from the submerged pilot house of the ship.
Using their small boats, the survivors left the capsized mother vessel behind and navigated to Coast Guard Substation Infanta, 180 nautical miles to the east on the coast of Luzon.
