A fire broke out on Friday at the Nohoch Alfa offshore platform in the Bay of Campeche, in the Gulf of Mexico, killing at least two individuals and leaving one missing.
According to Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), 328 workers were on the sight when the fire started. Two people died, at least six people were injured and the company has lost production capacity for about 700,000 barrels of oil, more than a third of its daily output.
Romero Oropeza, the general director of Pemex stated that there were three injured workers who, fortunately, are already out of danger. Two of them are already at home, while the other has burns on 35% of his body.
A few employees from other platforms informed CNN on Friday that the flames could be seen from their platforms, implying that the incident was of significant proportions.
To remind, in 2021, five workers were killed and six injured in another fire on an offshore platform in the southern Gulf of Mexico operated by Pemex while in 2020 three workers were injured in yet another Pemex fire.
