The 2,038 TEU Wan Hai 288 and the 920 TEU Resurgence collided on the Long Tau River in southern Vietnam on 11 February. The two ships were severely damaged and several containers from the first ship were destroyed as the port bow of the vessel was hit by Resurgence, whose bow was crunched in the incident.

According to international media, the Singapore vessel, Wan Hai 288, suffered a grounding incident after the collision and was towed to a nearby repair yard, while Resurgence went to a container terminal at Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam for inspection operations.

Vessel-tracking website, reported that the bow – or the front – of the Resurgence struck Wan Hai 288 in the cargo deck area, which caused the Singapore ship to get stuck in a nearby river bank.

Wan Hai 288, was sailing towards a port in Ho Chi Minh City when it collided with the Bahamian vessel Resurgence, which was going in the opposite direction.

MPA Singapore confirmed that the incident happened at around 5.40am (Singapore time) on Saturday and that there were no reports of injury or pollution. MPA is in contact with the company and will investigate the incident.

At the time of the incident, Wan Hai 288 was carrying around 1,400 containers, while the Resurgence was carrying about 600 containers.
