A fire broke out in the engine room of the Liberian-flagged cargo ship Siya, on June 12, at Yalova, Turkey.

At the time of the incident, the ship was undergoing maintenance and repair at a shipyard operating in the Altınova Shipyards Region.

Firefighters in the region responded to the fire from the land, while the teams affiliated to the General Directorate of Coastal Safety intervened from the sea.

The teams managed to extinguish the fire towards noon, and started to work on cooling. In a statement made by the General Directorate of Maritime Affairs, he said:

The fire that broke out on the Liberian-flagged ship SIYA at the shipyard in Yalova on 12.06.2022 at 00:05 was extinguished in the morning with the support of five tugboats from the sea and firefighters from the land, and no loss of life was experienced in the incident. No environmental pollution has been detected

In addition, The General Directorate of Coastal Security noted that “the fire in the engine room of the empty container ship Siya in Yalova Altınova was extinguished with the intervention of our Nene Hatun ship, other tugboats in the region and the land fire department.”
