A worker lost his life during a gas cylinder explosion at a shipyard in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong on September 14.
The incident took place at Mother Steel Shipyard in the Kumira area of the upazila. According to SI Nurul Alam Ashek of Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police, the blast happened while the worker was unloading the cylinders from a truck at the shipyard.
He was turn rushed to CMCH, where the doctor on duty pronounced him dead.
Working conditions at Bangladesh shipbreaking yards have long been a cause for concern. In fact, in June, a worker was killed and at least three others sustained serious injuries after a boiler explosion.
